Shooting at Howe Park Injures Four People Injured in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County
Sacramento authorities are working a violent incident that broke out late Saturday at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the time law enforcement were dissolving an unsanctioned gathering of a crowd of several hundred.
Prior to the Shooting
Law enforcement were first dispatched to Howe Park shortly before 6:30 Saturday evening after learning of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Shortly after, another report was received describing a reported physical confrontation unfolding near the park.
A sheriff's airship flew over the park but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Nevertheless, it was evident that a massive group had packed into the park without any permit or approval.
How the Shooting Unfolded
Law enforcement personnel started clearing the unauthorized gathering by positioning themselves around the crowd and announcing over their public address systems instructing the crowd to go home. About 15 minutes were allotted for the gathering to break up.
As the crowd was being cleared that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition were discharged. The rapid succession of shots sent the crowd running in all directions. Responding personnel immediately began searching for victims.
Four Victims Hospitalized
Altogether, four individuals were discovered with shooting injuries. The shooting victims — including a female and three males all believed to be in their mid to late twenties — were transported to local Sacramento hospitals. Hospital staff noted that two were treated for serious injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one person's injuries were considered minor. As of last report, all four were in stable condition.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District also responded and aided in treating the injured on location.
The Investigation
The main crime scene was believed to have been concentrated along the Cottage Way side of the park alongside the Home Depot store at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Detectives located further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Projectile impacts were observed in the wrought iron fence alongside the Home Depot store. This ballistic evidence suggested that a second shooter had been Arden Arcade Sacramento crime 2026 firing southward from the Cottage Way area aimed at the Home Depot store. The store itself was temporarily locked down as a precaution. Crime scene personnel remained on scene for hours.
Suspect Vehicle Located
Information obtained through law enforcement radio communications confirmed that a Kia connected to the shooting was intercepted in Solano County. Four occupants were detained. Deputies were traveling to Solano County to pick up those detained for questioning. Surveillance footage confirmed that two individuals had fired weapons.
